Our Changing Places facility is now open

We are happy to share that our Changing Places facility is now open on the first floor next to Cineworld. 

Harlow Town Council have made significant investment into this pivotal development which addresses the longstanding need for better provision for people living with disabilities.

Whilst standard accessible toilets meet the needs of some disabled people, over 230,000 people in the UK need personal assistance to use the toilet or change continence pads, including people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, spinal injuries and people living with stroke. Without appropriate facilities, carers are forced to change continence pads on public toilet floors or wait until they go home, which is unhygienic, undignified and unacceptable. Changing Places facilities offer a solution to this.

These larger accessible toilets for disabled people, include equipment such as; hoists, curtains, adult-sized adjustable changing benches, height- adjustable washbasins, privacy screens and shower units.

This initiative will play a key role in making The Harvey Centre more welcoming and accessible for people living with disabilities.
